IBRIX FUSION CITED AS A PREMIER SCALE-OUT NAS SOLUTION BY TANEJA GROUP

Scale-Out NAS Report Provides Best Practices for Managing Massive Unstructured Data Growth and Highlights IBRIX's Ability to Deliver Cost Savings and Performance Improvements

BILLERICA, MA -- April 16, 2008 - IBRIX® Inc., the leader in scalable file serving solutions, today announced the availability of the Taneja Group Solution Profile, Scale-Out NAS Hits the Big TimeTaneja Group, a consulting firm specializing in Information Technology, validates why Scale-out Network Attached Storage (NAS) is the only approach that can handle the massive amounts of unstructured data businesses need to store and access in order to stay competitive. The report highlights how one online business—growing their data store at a rate of 4 to 5 terabytes a day—was able to reduce their cost per gigabyte by 10 times with a software-based NAS solution from IBRIX.

Traditional NAS architecture consolidates data scattered around various storage pools and allows them to be efficiently shared and managed. Taneja Group reports that traditional and clustered NAS approaches are limited in their ability to manage massively scaled storage containing billions of active files. Instead, a computing infrastructure based on Scale-out NAS can expand horizontally by adding more compute nodes. The benefit of this approach is that it allows infinite scaling levels without performance limitations, and growth and operating expenses can keep pace with changing business needs. The Taneja Group report outlines the following criteria for selecting a Scale-out solution for managing large data repositories:

• Scalable capacity: a single large file namespace/system guards against file duplication and makes it possible to effectively manage files in bulk;

• Scalable performance: the file system must have the ability to keep data and metadata  in parallel for extremely efficient processing, and performance and capacity should be able to be adjusted with granularly as needed;

• Fault tolerance: the solution needs to function wholly even when a fault localized in a single area threatens to take down the entire file system;

• Sustainable storage platform: hot modular upgrades and hardware replacements must be supported and upgrades should not require large-scale migrations; and

• Optimized cost: scale-out NAS can be expensive if it is built on costly proprietary hardware; however, companies can control costs by adopting a solution that offers modular and vendor-agnostic architecture build on commodity hardware.

“The potential impact of Scale-out NAS is immense and IBRIX has established itself as an innovator in massively scalable storage for unstructured data,” said Christine Taylor, Research Analyst at Taneja Group and one of the authors of the report. “Other appliance-based solutions leave the customer with too much capacity or too much bandwidth resulting in NAS sprawl. Instead, IBRIX’s software solution offers an intelligent, general-purpose storage solution that can scale in multiple dimensions to match business requirements for cost and performance.”

”Enterprises continue to struggle with the challenge of storing and managing unstructured data in capacities that are growing to reach petabyte levels,” said Milan Shetti, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, IBRIX. “Other vendors claim petabyte-level installations—we’re doing it. Our single installs have been as large as 8 petabytes, growing to 32 petabytes to support Web services and software-as-a-service.”
